Greetings!

So who knows what this is, or where I plan on going with it. The short of it is: my name is Sam. I'm a film & television major and English major at Boston University. And I have absolutely no idea what I want out of life.

That being said, I plan on finding that out. The other day I was talking to a friend and I mentioned traveling and all the ways to remember a particular trip (videos, photos, etc.), and then I kicked myself because I realized that even though I have an over-abundance of pictures from the places I've been to, I never seem to to write in words where I go and what I do.

So I guess this blog does have a purpose, after all. I'm not one for political commentaries or shameless online complaining, so there'll be none of that nonsense here. I am, however, one for observing quietly. I'm also one for taking pictures. Lots and lots of pictures.

Ironically, I'm also not one for writing. I know, I know, "You're an English major." But I guess I'm just self-conscious. I also have the terrible habit of impatience. Rather than wait to find the right words, I will often haphazardly write down my thoughts (the downfall of many an academic paper). So I guess this blog will serve to motivate me and help me get rid of whatever self-consciousness I have now. Not only that, but it will help me organize. I also plan on improving on my photography, so you'll be seeing a lot of photos included with the posts. I have always loved taking pictures. I'm the proud owner of a Canon Digital Rebel. Up until about a year ago, I never really learned how to truly use it in a more than an "automatic" and "without the flash" sense. I'm extremely excited to finally be putting it to good use.

I'm ready to explore the world. (how terribly cliche...) THAT being said, I've been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit in the past. I have done the Disney thing. I have also done the Bahamas thing. I have done the Washington D.C. thing. I made it to London, England and the surrounding area when I was younger. I've been around most of the east coast of the United States, and branched out to Wisconsin. I also take pride in saying that I've been to the Harry Potter Theme Park in Universal Studios, Florida. (Yes, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, so you'll be hearing a lot about that, especially in the upcoming months.) I've done my fair share of travel, but this journal is for me to write about future places, not past places.

I'm ALSO not one for doing the cliche "about me" at the beginning of a blog sort of thing. I assume that'll reveal itself along the way. But for my own purposes: I'd like to write that at the beginning of this journal, I'm working on ridding myself of insecurities. When I say that I'm self-conscious about my writing, I should also say that I'm self-conscious about basically everything about myself. My insecurities have been the bane of my existence for some time now. But I have reached a point, and I am ready to let them go. Slowly but surely, it is beginning to happen.

I'll also write that I'm a born and bred Cape-Codder. I have loved living on the Cape. In my opinion, it is a great place to grow up. However, I know that, doing what I want to do, I will most likely not be living there for some time upon my college graduation. But all the same, I could not have asked for a better place to grow up, and better people to grow up with who I will forever have in my life.

The last thing I'll share is that I love outer space, and I'm a sucker for natural beauty. You'll probably hear rants about how beautiful the stars looked or how intense that twig on the side of the interstate was. I credit my parents for molding me into a space geek (and yes, I am a Trekkie). But there really is something to be said for how beautiful it all is.

I guess it's time to christen this thing. This is mainly an area where I can write about my travels. But I'm sure I'll put other random things in here, as well. Here's to growing up- may it bring everyone adventure and new and exciting things that they never dreamed possible.

Thanks for reading, and I will talk to you all soon!

Cheers,
Sam
